Covenant House of St. Vincent
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is made up of 32 islands and cays. Located West of Barbados, South of Saint Lucia, and North of Grenada. It is a volcanic island with six towns and five parishes. The capital is Kingstown. St. Vincent is approximately 133 square miles on the mainland, with the Grenadines islands totaling 150 square miles. The population is approximately 110,000. Throughout its history, it has faced obstacles due to its size, location, and lack of natural resource availability. Natural disasters such as storms, droughts, and heavy rains have often resulted in farmers losing their crops and livelihood. Recent volcanic eruptions have had a negative impact on farming, destroyed many homes, and caused great strain, especially on single parent households. The future will undoubtedly be more challenging for many. Because of a scarcity of natural resources, many of its residents rely on subsistence farming for a living, where a tiny plot of land is cultivated, and a portion of the produce is sold. In most cases, the little money earned is insufficient to cover the family’s basic needs. Despite the country’s infrastructure growth, and the fact that many of these families are single parents, teenage girls lead to child abandonment and mistreatment. Some of these children can be found begging on the streets of the city as well as getting involved in other harmful activities. With such a great need, it is so important to have the right team in place, especially the right National partners. We are so thankful to be serving with Pastor Nigel and Urisca Maloney and Grace Baptist Church. They have served in ministry in St. Vincent for over 25 years. They have served all over the island and have been burdened with a variety of issues, including ministering to orphaned and uncared for children. You can be a part of this great ministry on the island of St. Vincent
God’s great blessings!
